The discussion of Beauty and the Beast in Jeffords article reminded me of the analysis of the story by one of my favorite YouTubers and film scholars, Lindsay Ellis. She discusses the way that the film shifts the story from being Beauty/Belle's to being the story of the Beast's change, and remarks that in both this film and other Disney movies of the time we see this trend of the female protagonist stating a large want (freedom, adventure, etc.) that is solved in the narrative by her romance with a man.
