Supplemental Post #7 - Madison Lorenz

After learning about the tragic news of the DJ Avicii's death this past weekend, it seems that many fans, music festivals, radio stations, and other artists took time to pay tribute to the musician. It is extremely sad and shocking when news like this is released, especially when the celebrity is so young like Avicii was, passing away at only 28 years old.
All throughout the weekend, I heard Avicii playing on the radio, on people's phones, and at events.
There was one moment that hit me in particular: I live in downtown LA across from a theater that hosts events almost every night. Right below my building and across from the theater is a vacant parking lot that will sometimes set up events as well. This past weekend on Saturday and Sunday, they held an event called Broke LA (previously known as Broke-chella) where people can pay $15 to see DJs, eat, drink, and listen to stand up comedy for the afternoon/evening. At one point during the evening, the DJ outside stared playing an Avicii song. People immediately starting flocking the DJ booth, cheering and dancing to the music. I watched as people found so much joy and thought about how cool it is that one person can use their passion and talent to bring people together. One thing I love about both music and movies is that they can bring together a diverse group of people. For those 3 minutes of a song, or for the 90 minutes of a movie, everyone puts their differences aside and enjoys the same piece of art together. I found it so incredible to watch these strangers having so much fun together while paying tribute to the late musician and that this one person was able to unite so many people across the world.
