Supplemental Response 1

So I couldn’t help but share [brag] about my celeb sighting this weekend. Myself and two friends (both of whom are from my hometown and haven’t lived in Los Angeles very long) were strolling down Sunset Blvd. after a stint at the Standard and decided to grab some early dinner at Chateau Marmont. It’s not a restaurant I had ever really heard of, but it was walking distance and we were feeling pretty high key like that.

            As we walk past the parking garage preparing to ascend the stairs to the restaurant, who else but Kanye West is casually waiting for his car- of course repping the Yeezy’s. Now, I (being a self-proclaimed LA-veteran after my 4 short years here) decide to play it cool and continue walking toward the stairs. And to my extreme embarrassment, I hear a, “Heyyy, what’s up Kanye” (in that typical ‘trying to keep it cool’ voice) and realize that both Katie Rose and Paige are prancing towards Kanye’s car.

            And he was actually extremely nice. Instead of just getting in the car and swerving away, he waits for Katie Rose and Paige, shakes their hand, then strikes up a conversation.

            “You guys having a good day so far?”

            Now I’m about 10 paces away on the other side of the lot just kind of watching in awe and regretting not being more fan-girly but also thinking it would probably be too awkward to run up at this point. But Kanye, as if reading my mind like the Jedi Master he is, extends his hand and starts walking towards me to introduce himself. I’m so focused on the fact that he’s actually saying words to me that I completely blank out on what is actually being said, but then black back into the conversation around the point he was saying something about,

             “You’re some beautiful girls, but I have a wife”

            Of course now I try to say something as witty as possible except I’m not witty so I say something like,

            “Yep, she seems like a keeper, better treat her right”

             Then he does that ‘chuckle and point at you’ thing that I usually do when I don’t think a joke is funny and gets into his car.

            All in all it was a really pleasant surprise- with the fact that he was actually being pleasant as the biggest surprise of all. I’ve crossed paths with Kanye before and he’s never been one to ‘socialize’, more of just a glare-er. Gossip magazines and such seem to confirm this public image. So, as we continued up the stairs I started wondering, ‘why now?’

            I think with such a negative image circulating around the media recently- about going insane, having mental breakdowns, being hospitalized, etc.- Kanye is on his best behavior. Then, as I was scrolling through Snapchat today, I remembered him and Kim have a baby on the way! Their surrogate gave birth Monday, a mere day after I saw him at the Chateau. That baby bliss excitement probably had him feelin’ some type of way when he met us.

            I don’t keep up too much, but what else has Kanye in a good mood lately? Maybe he’s just becoming a nice guy? Maybe he’s always been nice and the media has villainized him?? What do we think???
