We discussed, in our first couple weeks of class, that a star could be perceived as made by the audience who constantly support and look up to these people. Like King states, stars have a major control over how people are represented in society and how being on mass media gives them a great influence on people in society. It was recently Ellen Degeneres's 60th birthday. On her show, she had various surprise visits made by celebrities, all celebrating Ellen's birthday, and I realized that all guests said the same thing about Ellen. Everyone praised Ellen for being such a generous, self-less, and loving person, as she is known to be an avid supporter and advocate of various non profit organizations, schools, teachers, people, animals, you name it. Her birthday show reminded me of King's argument of how much influence stars have on the audience and it became so relevant with Ellen because from watching her show and seeing how much she wants good upon people, it made me want to do the same with the people around me.
