When working in small groups in class the other day, one of the questions asked about the way that different films had used different stars reputations or personas. I immediately thought of Birdman- Michael Keaton, who is famous for playing Batman, plays an older actor trying to create a real career for himself after his starring in a series of "Birdman" films. Edward Norton, an actor with a reputation for being talented and difficult to work with, plays a similar character in the film.
As I was talking about the movie with my group, I realized that the premise was sounding more and more familiar to the first film we watched in class, All About Eve. A quick Google search told me I wasn't the only one with this thought. I found this article (link below) that looked at the similarities between the two, looking at aspects such as the way that both feature older actors threatened by youth, the theme of vanity, and, less consequential to the article and more relevant to this week's readings, are largely set in theaters but discuss the world of film (interesting in discussion with the origin of stardom and the way it succeeded in film where it failed for theatre).
